Natural aesthetic takes over Bollywood in 2024
Bollywood continues to lead global beauty trends, with 2024 marking a shift towards more subtle, natural-looking cosmetic enhancements. The global trend of embracing individuality is being followed by actors and actresses, who are increasingly choosing procedures that prioritise refinement over transformation.
Among the top procedures are rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, and advanced 4D VASER liposuction. Rhinoplasty remains a favourite for facial balance, while liposuction and tummy tucks help stars achieve contoured physiques. Jawline enhancements and chin augmentations, often combined with rhinoplasty, are gaining popularity for creating a balanced facial profile. Facelifts such as surgical and nonsurgical remain a go-to solution for those combating ageing signs. Fat grafting is also in high demand, offering a natural, risk-free way to enhance facial and body contours using the patient’s own fat.
Bollywood is known for its unique aesthetic and commitment to artistic perfection. This is seen in its growing desire for custom-made, understated modifications, which globally impacts beauty standards.

Urfi Javed sparks dialogue on cosmetic choices
Social media influencer Urfi Javed’s recent decision to pursue silicone breast implants, despite being advised of potential risks, has raised concerns within the medical community. Dr Rohan Khandelwal, oncologist and head of the Breast Centre at CK Birla Hospital, has reportedly warned that such messaging can mislead young women and downplay the health risks of silicone implants.
Contrary to popular belief, silicone implants are not without complications. Common risks include infections, capsular contracture (painful scar tissue hardening), and implant rupture. Moreover, breast implant illness (BII) is linked to symptoms like fatigue and joint pain. Also, implants often require replacement every 10-15 years, leading to potential health risks from repeated surgeries. Alternatives such as fat grafting uses the patient’s own tissue for safer, more natural results. There is a need for informed decision-making and choosing qualified surgeons for any cosmetic procedure.
High satisfaction rates in Adam’s apple surgery
A recent study published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Global Open reveals high patient satisfaction rates for ‘Adam’s apple’ reduction surgery, known medically as aesthetic chondrolaryngoplasty. The study by Dr Jeffrey H Spiegel and his team at Boston University Medical Centre highlights the need for plastic surgeons to carefully balance cosmetic results with the risk of irreversible voice changes.
The procedure, primarily sought by transgender women as part of facial feminisation, involves reducing the prominence of the thyroid cartilage. Dr Spiegel has performed over 600 such surgeries since 2006, with 60 per cent of patients reporting they were “very” or “completely” satisfied with their neck appearance. Notably, 55 per cent felt their results were optimal, and none experienced long-term voice alterations.
The introduction of a new seven-item questionnaire allows surgeons to better assess the physical and emotional impacts of the surgery, equipping them to set realistic expectations for future patients.
