Our heartfelt thankfulness to the editorial advisory board experts Dr Apratim Goel, Dr Amit Luthra, and Dr Mukta Sachdev, for being part of this story and extending their support in identifying the 10 non-invasive treatments and suggesting dermatologists pan- India for the same. Our sincere gratitude to Dr Medha Bhave for being part of this story and extending all her support in identifying the 10 invasive treatments as well as guiding us to connect with some of India’s prominent aesthetic plastic surgeons.

Dermatologists

Just when dermatologists, aesthetic plastic surgeons and other aesthetic practitioners were flourishing amid the cosmetic boom, in March 2020, the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared a pandemic – the COVID-19. The pandemic has significantly disrupted the world economy and continues to have its unruly impact on lives, businesses and industries like never before.

•Dr Apratim Goel on Botulinum Toxin

The last five years, especially, were witnessing a boom in both non-invasive and invasive aesthetic procedures.

•Dr Rasya Dixit on Chemical Peels

A recent market analyst report by Grand View Research – Non-invasive Aesthetic Market Report, 2021-2028 – reveals that the global non-invasive aesthetic treatment market size was valued at US$ 4.6 billion in 2020 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 13.9 per cent from 2021 to 2028. This growth is attributed to an increase in demand for fillers and injectables including botulinum toxin, among others.

•Dr Amit Luthra on Dermal Fillers

•Dr Padmavathi Surapaneni on HIFU

While the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), ranks the US as number one in terms of non-surgical procedures performed at a global level, growing consciousness about fitness has increased the demand for these treatments in developing countries as well. The noninvasive aesthetic treatment in India, for instance, is gaining consumer interest. Also, as secondary research indicates, the country ranks among the top five for surgical procedures performed.

•Dr Mukta Sachdev on Laser Hair Removal

Since the aesthetic practice largely relies on close physical contact with patients, the pandemic did significantly impact this community too. While a negative growth is not an unexpected outcome in the current scenario, reports indicate this to be short term. Here’s why: developing countries are expected to be key revenue pockets for this market in times to come with an increase in focus on physical appearance.

•Dr Abhishek De on Mesotherapy

Even in recent times, social media is known to have played a vital role in rising awareness. This plus, the advent of an increase in virtual interactions had led to a rise in demand for facial rejuvenation procedures, and treatments for skin resurfacing, hair reduction, scar treatments, skin tightening, and fat reduction among others.

•Dr Chiranjiv Chhabra on Microneedling RF

Additionally, a report released by Fortune Business Insights this year, indicates that the global cosmetic surgery market share is likely to gain traction from the everincreasing number of patients undergoing procedures such as chin augmentation, breast reduction, and breast augmentation. Reports also anticipate the global breast implants market to reach US$ 4.3 billion by 2026. A study by Data Bridge Market Research mentions that the cosmetic surgery and services market is expected to gain market growth from 2020-2027 at a CAGR of 8.0 per cent, and technological advancements in the cosmetic surgery techniques will assist in encouraging market growth.

•Dr Aseem Sharma on PRP for Hair Loss

Amid the ups and downs in the current scenario, with demand and future growth projecting upwards, the Aesthetic Medicine India team has planned this story. We have been hand in glove with the aesthetic community during these challenging months and have seen the community fighting back, staying motivated, and keeping the optimism going.

•Dr Anil Ganjoo on Q-Switch Laser for Pigmentation
