IV Drips: Boosting Beauty and Wellness in Aesthetic Medicine
Learn about the benefits, frequency, and customisation of IV drips in aesthetic medicine for detox, skin health, and overall wellness
Aesthetic Medicine India joined Envi Aesthetics in Mumbai for an insightful discussion on January 29, 2025, exploring the latest advancements in aesthetics and redefining beauty. The evening explored treatments like IV drips, which are now a popular treatment for rejuvenation, detoxification, and skin health, helping boost overall well-being.
But how often should these drips be taken, and what are the benefits and potential risks associated with them? Kanishka Ramchandani from the AMI team, delved into answers in conversation with Dr Prachi Bodkhe, MD, Dermatology, Envi Aesthetics.
What is the frequency of IV drip treatments?
The type of infusion administered largely determines its frequency. While some individuals may seek regular sessions, others prefer a more customised approach based on their unique needs. Generally, most practitioners recommend spacing sessions out by at least 10 to 15 days. Afterward, doctors can evaluate the results and adjust the treatment accordingly to achieve the desired outcome. This allows the body to process the infusion, maximising its effectiveness while reducing the risk of side-effects.
What does an IV drip address?
Detoxification is the primary concern that these drips aim to address. Detox helps the body heal, leading to noticeable improvements in skin appearance over time. Many people experience noticeable changes in their skin texture, colour, and collagen production after undergoing a series of IV treatments. These improvements often include better skin tone, a brighter complexion, and a more youthful look.
How can IV drip infusion be customised?
The beauty of IV drips is their customisability. Each person’s needs and health goals are different, so the cocktails used in the infusion can vary. Consistency is key, but healthcare providers can make adjustments based on individual needs, ensuring personalised and effective treatment each session. If a patient feels tired or unwell, the healthcare provider can adjust the cocktail to suit their current condition for optimal results.
What would the duration of these sessions be?
Sessions usually take around 45 mins to 1 hour, especially for regular treatments. The first session lasts about 1 hour 15 minutes to assess how the body reacts to the infusion. Mild side effects may occur; clients should proceed cautiously during the first session under the supervision of a skilled professional.
Are there any pre- and post-treatment care?
Taking proper care before and after an IV drip treatment is crucial to ensure the best possible results.
Pre-treatment: Avoid excessive supplements before the session, as they can interfere with the infusion. Patients should openly share any supplements or medications they are taking, as this helps make informed decisions about the treatment. Patients should also hydrate well before the session to help the body absorb the infusion more effectively.
Post-treatment: Post treatment, it is essential for patients to hydrate and avoid sun exposure for a few days, especially after treatments that involve skin rejuvenation. In case of invasive procedures or more intensive treatments, healthcare providers should prescribe antibiotics or specialised post-procedure creams.
Any potential side-effects and contraindications?
While IV drips are generally safe when administered properly, some people may experience mild irritation or discomfort at the injection site, but these effects usually subside quickly. One thing to be cautious about is the infusion rate. Administering the drip too quickly or in excessive quantities can cause adverse reactions, so it is vital to ensure the drip is given at the correct speed. For certain individuals, such as pregnant women or those with severe illnesses like high-grade fever, IV treatments may not be suitable. Individuals should consult with doctors about any health conditions that may interfere with the treatment..
