Kashmiri dermatologist Dr Tasleem Arif honoured at EADV Congress

At the grand European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) Congress in Berlin, Dr Tasleem Arif, a Kashmiri dermatologist from Srinagar’s Soura area, clinched the prestigious “Imrich Sarkany Non-European Memorial Scholarship”. This esteemed recognition, awarded at the Congress held from October 11-14, 2023, marks a monumental achievement for the doctor. A proud alumnus of Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) and GMC Srinagar, he holds an MD in Dermatology, STDs, and Leprosy. With an illustrious career, he served as an Assistant Professor in JNMC’s dermatology department at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and boasts over 140 research publications, including multiple book chapters. Notably, Dr. Arif’s contributions to dermatology encompass groundbreaking discoveries like the “Tasleem’s water jet sign” and an innovative technique for vitiligo surgery graft measurements. His extensive work on Melasma Severity Index (MSI) received national acclaim, securing the Dr S Premalatha Award-2016 by IADVL.

Specialising in Scleroderma, Dr. Arif’s research has garnered global recognition, with more than 25 dedicated publications in this field. His expertise extends to esophageal involvement in systemic sclerosis, acknowledged by the New England Journal of Medicine. This esteemed award, limited to 12 young dermatologists under 40 from non-European nations, recognises outstanding achievements in medical journals, book publications, scientific presentations, and posters at national and international conferences..
