A esthetic surgeries such as body shaping are often viewed as quick-fix solutions to get into shape. Such treatments may help patients reach halfway through their goal of having an aesthetically pleasing body. However, it also becomes imperative for doctors to make their patients aware of the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Along with focusing on surgeries and their immediate results, medical aesthetic practitioners should also emphasise the importance of incorporating good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle to achieve long-term sustainability. This way, patients can enjoy the desired results and maintain them for a longer time.

Here, maintaining routine exercises and following a proper diet play an important role. It becomes imperative that the doctors and the fitness fraternity come together to give their clients optimal results.

A lot of people look at body shaping as a ‘hack’ to look better. However, they are not aware that they would regress back to their old body composition if they do not maintain their lifestyle and nutrition after the procedure. The biggest misconceptions are in relation to food sources and how certain food sources are fattening or not good for health. The fact of the matter is ‘the dose makes the poison’.

The quality and quantity of food people eat and their calorie intake matters more than the sources. The goal should be to ensure that the whole lifestyle supports our health and understand that basic caloric balance is a must for everyone wanting to maintain their body composition at any stage. The whole plan should be sustainable!

To continue maintaining the body shape after the treatments, having a regular fitness routine is important. Doctors should consider various factors such as informing their patients about maintaining a fitness routine. This will help make their practice more robust.

Further, the goal and mission of aesthetic medicine practitioners should expand beyond the scope of the procedure – invasive or non-invasive – and its immediate results. People tend to perceive aesthetic surgeries as a ‘hack’. However, there are chances that they would get back to old body composition if the patients are not made aware to fix their lifestyle, including nutrition.

Another goal and mission of aesthetic practitioners should not just be limited to ‘the surgery’ and immediate results. The focus should be on the sustainability of those results, which can only be achieved through good nutrition and a better lifestyle.

Nutrition is important in supporting better skin and hair health; and lifestyle factors like sleep, stress management, and exercise can improve the effects of dermatological treatments.

When it comes to body shaping, there is no “signature workout” that works for everyone. Instead, it depends on the individual’s preferences, fitness levels, and ability to sustain the workout. It depends on the current fitness levels and most importantly what they can sustain. For starters, one can start with a mix of weight training, walking more steps, and cardiovascular work.

For patients who want to complement their body-shaping treatments at home, I would recommend focusing on strengthening their muscles and burning calories to maintain overall health and prevent fat from regaining.

Nutrition is also a critical component of body-shaping treatments. Poor nutrition can undo the effects of surgery, leading to weight gain and potential health complications. Therefore, it is essential to align nutrition and eating habits before and after treatment to maintain the desired results.

Certainly, doctors and fitness coaches can collaborate. Healthcare professionals work on improving their patient’s overall lifestyle, including blood work and health markers, to ensure that they have a comprehensive understanding of how to eat, exercise, and maintain their desired results. By collaborating with dermatologists and other healthcare professionals, fitness experts can help their patients achieve their goals for better health and wellness.
