Dimentional Approach to Anti-Ageing

There are multiple approaches to tackle ageing skin. Going by the theme of this edition, we revisit the webinar with Dr Sonia Tekchandani, Consultant Dermatologist, Tender Skin International -India and UAE, in which, she virtually walked us through with a 3-dimensional approach to anti-ageing and explained various methods involved in it. Dr Tekchandani focused on golden ratio, triangle of youth, signs of ageing, principles of 3D skin rejuvenation, medical codes and ageing trigger points, and practical tips. Excerpts from the webinar:

GOLDEN RATIO

It is a mathematical ratio where the face is slightly longer than the breadth of the face. The proportions of the length of the nose, the position of the eyes and the length of the chin conform to certain aspects of the golden ratio. It is measured by dividing the length of the face by the width, with the ideal ratio being 1.6. Furthermore, the length of an ear is equal to the length of the nose and the width of an eye is equal to the distance between the eyes.

TRIANGLE OF YOUTH

Triangle of youth represents three features of the face – high cheekbones, full cheek volume and a well-defined jawline. The base of the triangle should be at the cheeks and the point should be at the chin. As the skin ages, the triangle of youth is inverted, with flattened cheeks and appearance of jowls.

SIGNS OF AGEING

Signs of ageing can be seen gradually on the face. These include crow’s feet, bunny lines, obvious tear trough, sunken cheeks and cheekbone area, saggy cheek fat, and nasolabial folds. Other signs include depressed and flattened contour, central and middle forehead fat hypotrophy that is accompanied by bone resorption. Horizontal lines also begin to appear on the face because of restricted movement of skin by galea aponeurotica.

PRINCIPLES OF 3D SKIN REJUVENATION

There are four major points in 3D skin rejuvenation that include resurfacing, relaxing muscle, refill, and resuspend. Resurfacing includes peels, MDA, fractional lasers and PRP; while botulinum toxin relaxes wrinkles around the upper part of the face, lifts up the corners of the mouth to eradicate the sad look. Refill includes fillers that can be used to add volume to sunken temples, hollowing under eyes, deflated cheeks, and down-turned mouth corners and improve weak jawlines. For resuspension, threads can be used to achieve the lifting and tightening effect on the face and realign the sagging tissue to rejuvenate the skin.

Furthermore, Dr Tekchandani presented various case studies with before and after photos of both female and male patients who took anti-ageing treatments. The interactive webinar also featured several polls, with viewers taking part in the session.
