Dear Reader

For aesthetic dermatologists, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has become a common concern in their day-to-day consultations, as patients often reach out to a skin expert to deal with symptoms of the condition, such as acne, rather than the root cause. While it is one of the most common hormonal conditions in women, its implications can be unpleasant, leaving a strong psychological impact on them. The many physical changes that this condition evokes, especially with regards to hair and skin, can severely affect the way women perceive themselves.

Acne vulgaris, scarring, loss of hair and bald patches as well as weight gain are some of the important symptoms of PCOS that women have to deal with on a regular basis. Women with PCOS are also known to experience anxiety and depression. In this edition dedicated to PCOS and its multi-pronged impact on both the physiology and psychology of women, we seek solutions and workable protocols.

While discussing this with Dr Aseem Sharma from Mumbai earlier this month, he pointed out,“More often than not, as dermatologists, we are the first-hand responders to PCOS.” And I couldn’t agree more! To know more about his perspective, I engaged him into a detailed and in insightful conversation (full interview on pg 17).This edition focuses on ‘treating aesthetic symptoms of PCOS’ (pg 15). We have also delved into dealing with patients who undergo stress due to PCOS (pg 20) and how a balanced diet and regular exercise reduces the risk of PCOS (pg 22). Creating awareness among your patients is the key!

Also, do not miss reading our stories on jawline correction, thyroid problems, menopause and more.

After a successful Aesthetic Medicine Show in Mumbai earlier this year, we are now gearing up for our next conference and expo in Bengaluru. My team and I will look forward to welcoming you at Princess Shrine Palace, Bengaluru on November 19-20, 2022. To register, CLICK HERE.

Wishing you a happy read!
