Excellence in Chin and Jawline Creation with Restylane

Dr Pankaj Chaturvedi, MD, Director and Consultant Dermatologist, MedLinks, New Delhi, and Dr Swati Garg, Owner and Director, Smart Skin Solutions, Panchkula, Haryana, bring the focus on achieving excellence in chin and jawline creation with Restylane on the Let’s Talk Series by Aesthetic Medicine India powered by Galderma.

D rChaturvedi opened the session with an observation of how the lower face is important for Indians because we don’t have a very prominent jawline and supportive bone structure. “In the lower face, there are basically three areas in which we focus the treatment - 1. Lips and perioral area, 2. Jawline and 3. Chin.”

With regards to the lips, he mentioned that because of ageing there is a loss of volume; superficial tissues undergo distension and begin to droop; the vermilion border becomes larger, longer and thicker at the corner of the mouth; the philtrum column become less defined; the Cupid’s bow flattens; there is solar elastosis; and the smile becomes a little inverted. There are changes in the chin also.

“The jawline is a tent raised on two poles. One pole is your chin. And the second pole is the angle of the mandible. So, if there are defects in the bony tissue, the jawline will become less defined and the face will look saggier and plumper. We have a versatile range from the house of Restylane -Lyft, Defyne, Volyme and Kysse. To give a refreshed look, we have the skinboosters,” explained Dr Chaturvedi.

CASE STUDY 1

The patient wanted something done to her lower face, because she’s not happy with the way her lips moved. She had plastic surgery done to her mid face.

Dr Garg gave her 1ml of Restylane Defyne in the nasolabial fold and 1ml of Restylane Kysse for her lips. So, just 2 ml of fillers made her lips look better on her teeth.

Dr Chaturvedi’s opinion: This is the exact approach I would have taken to treat these concerns.

CASE STUDY 2

Dr Garg: This case is of a typical, retrognathic chin. She came asking for a chin filler. We gave her 2 ml of Restylane Volyme to improve her chin, which has given her a better projection and less of a shadow effect in her lower face, a better light shadow on the frontal profile and an improved lateral profile.

Dr Chaturvedi’s opinion: I am sure the patient must have a budget constraint. I think one more ml could have been used because you can see how significantly the double chin has improved. In the lateral view, we can see that the chin still does not have much projection. So, a bit more could have been given to this patient, if the budget allowed.

CASE STUDY 3

Dr Garg: This is a case of lower face ageing. We can clearly appreciate the nasolabial fold, the marionette fold and a prominent jowl in the jaw line. So, there is loss of the sharp jawline that we want. Thinning of the lips is also quite visible along with the hollowing of the medial cheek.

Dr Chaturvedi’s: The biggest issue with patients is that they have very high expectations with fillers, and think that 1ml of filler is going to do the magic. I normally start these patients with counselling. I also understand how much budget they have because this kind of face requires at least 8-10 ml, in the first session and maybe a bit more after a couple of months.

In this case, I would have first corrected the angle of the mandible with 3ml of the product so that we can correct the jowls. Then I would have worked on the nasolabial fold and marionette line. And one ml for the lips. So maybe in 3ml, I would have made the patient a little happy. But yes, this patient requires quite a good amount of volume.

CASE STUDY 4

Dr Garg:In this female patient one side of the mandible was not developed since her childhood.

I managed 4ml of filler on one side of her face, and I was able to create this angle for her. So, this was the result after 4ml of a filler that I give her on one side of the jawline and this I included just to include that sometimes a little correction also offer deformity, and that will for congenital deformity can give life-transforming results, especially at the need of the hour for the patient.

Dr Chaturvedi’s opinion: Very true, beautiful change. This is the beauty of fillers - there’s no other treatment, which can give instant results like this.

CASE STUDY 5

Dr Chaturvedi: The patient is a female Instagram blogger, with good skin. She wanted a leaner look. So, I just did 1ml of a Restylane Lyft in the chin area, and there was an instant result

CASE STUDY 6

Dr Chaturvedi: This patient came to me to get a rhinoplasty done. She’s a doctor. She wanted to do something without surgery, like fillers, and to connect her nose.

Dr Garg’s opinion: A chin filler could do wonders to her profile along the lateral profile as well as in the frontal one. So, if we could convince her for the chin filler that would do much of the filings for her. So that is something that should be counselled along with the nose.

Dr Chaturvedii: We injected 2ml of Restylane Lyft for the chin and a bit of correction of the nose. She is actually a case of rhinoplasty, but we did a bit of correction of the nasal bridge to make it a little straighter and a one and a half ml of Restylane Lyft. The chin and lip got better and now she can see a jawline.

CASE STUDY 7

Dr Chaturvedi: A Spanish girl with a chiselled face and no fat. She wanted to become better but was not sure what she wanted. So, we did a bit of a correction of the jawline, the chin area, and the cheeks. We haven’t done anything on the lips, but you can see these lips are also looking better, too. We used 1ml Restylane Lyft and 1ml Defyne.

CASE STUDY 8

Dr. Chaturvedi: This female patient wasn’t sure what she need. All she said was she wanted to look beautiful. I asked what was bothering her and she said her double chin. She didn’t want surgery or gym exercises. Her mid-face was lacking in volume and the chin was short and broad.

We have done 1ml Restylane Lyft on the chin and half ml of Restylane Defyne on the cheeks and half ml Defyne in the jawline area. So with total 2ml of product and the double chin is better. The face started looking slimmer and lifted. We started sodium deoxycholate injections and HIFU for the double chin area.
