STARS OF Instagram

The 3rd Anniversary Special of Aesthetic Medicine India celebrates the new-age aesthetic practitioners that are Instagram-savvy and are effectively using the medium to educate their followers and to create more awareness about themselves.

I nstagram is one of the most sought after social media platforms today. From brand awareness and lead generation to audience engagement and SEO rankings, it helps individuals and businesses in multiple ways. Social media received an unprecedented boost during the lockdown period and the trend is here to stay as netizens continue to rely on platforms like Instagram for news, updates and information. Features such as Reels and Live have become handy tools for marketing and promotion and connecting with the target audience. In the light of the growing popularity of Instagram, the 3rd Anniversary Special of Aesthetic Medicine India magazine presents its cover feature, which comprises 30 aesthetic medicine practitioners who are using this medium effectively to keep their followers engaged and patients updated.

“Instagram has proved helpful to us in providing information to our followers. Patients often come to us with unrealistic expectations. With the help of social media, we try to dispel myths and misinformation. During the pandemic, social media proved to be an important tool to reach out to patients outside Mumbai. It paved the way for virtual consultations and home treatments. And lastly it helped establish us as an authority on home remedies and in-clinic treatments,” says Dr Apratim Goel, CEO and Medical Director, Cutis Skin Studio. “We have tried various formats on Instagram and have discovered that interactive posts and short informative videos work the best. Our followers love to engage with us. Having said that, each day continues to bring new learning for us.”

Aesthetic medicine is an aspect that is prone to the most number of myths. Getting authentic information from a certified and trained professional, therefore, becomes an advantage to the consumers. Be it understanding at-home skin and hair care, knowledge about products and ingredients and information about treatments and procedures, the doctors featured in our cover story are Instagram-savvy and eager to share their knowledge with their followers.

Dr Shefali Trasi Nerurkar, Consultant Dermatologist, Dr Trasi Clinic and La Piel Skin Clinic, elaborates, “Instagram has allowed me to show the different procedures that I do at the clinic. It has also allowed me to be visibility to various patients all across the world. Many a time people are confused about different procedures; Instagram gives them clarity about the way they are done. We show our success stories, giving confidence to other people wanting to do those treatments. Reels and stories work best for me as they allow me to display my work in a short format.”

Instagram, being a visual medium, helps doctors with visibility and outreach. Their Instagram accounts also provide a testimony of their experience and expertise, allowing patients to know their work beforehand. At the end of the day, it works in the doctor’s favour that the patient is walking into their clinic wellaware, well-informed and with realistic expectations.

In the pages to follow, we have enlisted 30 aesthetic medicine practitioners (in no particular order of ranking), who are active on Instagram. Our profiling of them is an attempt to understand why aesthetic medicine is a trending topic on Instagram and how practitioners can use it to their advantage.
