Cosmetic surgeries witness a rise in demand during the pandemic

The Government of India has implemented a nationwide lockdown last year in different phases to curb the spread of the coronavirus infection. With an increase in the amount of time spent at home as well as exposure to online video calls and virtual events, people are becoming more self-aware and are paying more attention to their looks and appearance. Plastic surgeons in India have seen up to 40 per cent rise in cosmetic surgeries during the pandemic, mostly among working professionals who are between 25 to 45 years of age. Liposuction, tummy tuck, arm lift, breast reduction, and breast augmentation along with facial rejuvenation procedures such as rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, jawline contouring, neck rejuvenation or even simple procedures such as scar revision and acne mark treatments have been some of the commonly requested procedures.

The two major factors that are known for driving plastic or aesthetic surgeries include: Due to the ‘work from home’ culture and multiple video calls, individuals have started paying more attention to their appearance. People also have time to undergo surgeries to enhance their appearance and recover at leisure in absence of in-person official meetings or work-related travel. The focus on one’s physical and mental well-being has increased tremendously. Additionally, cosmetic surgery is being widely accepted in society, and both men and women are equally interested in cosmetic surgeries nowadays.
