Cosmetic surgery demand is on rise amidst COVID-19 pandemic

Reportedly, plastic surgeons in India have seen up to 40 per cent rise in cosmetic surgeries during the pandemic, mostly among working professionals who are between 25 to 45 years of age. Commonly requested procedures are known to be those for body contouring such as liposuction, tummy tuck, arm lift, breast reduction, breast augmentation and so on or facial rejuvenation procedures such as rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, jawline contouring, neck rejuvenation or even simple procedures such as scar revision and acne marks treatment. While most of these surgeries can be performed on daycare basis, the post-operative swelling and bruising can be easily concealed with masks. Especially in recent times, it has been seen that due to the possibility of working from the comfort of one’s home or even a remote location, the downtime associated with any cosmetic surgery has not been interfering much with anyone’s work schedule. Cosmetic surgery is a relatively newer field in India. Having evolved in the 1990s, the last decade has witnessed an exponential growth in the incidence of cosmetic surgeries in India.
