Botulinum toxin market to grow at 7.5 per cent CAGR over six years

Despite the critical setback to the botulinum toxin market growth because of reduced elective surgeries due to the pandemic, the global botulinum toxin market size is projected to reach US$ 7.71 billion by 2027, exhibiting a CAGR of 7.5 per cent during the forecast period. A highly potent neurotoxin, botulinum toxin has been found to be effective in producing a therapeutic effect on the body, according to a study. As reported, the neurotoxins’s potential for treating complex chronic pain conditions led the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to allow it’s use as a treatment option for glabellar lines, blepharospasm, and cervical dystonia. Further, recent evidence has also shown that this protein is equally effective in managing chronic migraine and another study found that botulinum toxin injections are effective in reducing the frequency of chronic migraine headaches as well. Proven effectiveness of botulinum toxin in treating chronic pain disorders, widening it’s applicability will fuel the growth of this market in the upcoming years.

Thread facelifts are rapidly gaining popularity

The facelift segment of the aesthetics market is expected to show the fastest growth rate over the period 2021-2026, with thread facelifts rapidly gaining popularity. A thread facelift is a procedure where temporary sutures create a subtle but visible lift in the skin; so instead of removing a patient’s loose facial skin surgically, a cosmetic surgeon instead simply suspends it by using medical thread to ‘stitch up’ parts of it. This type of surgery does not involve incisions, or deep-tissue handling, making the downtime, and recovery much easier for a patient, as compared to facelift surgery. Thread facelifts are gaining popularity over surgical procedures due to the increasing global demand for non-surgical procedures. The aesthetics market is also seeing several training courses to provide better quality treatment with thread facelifts –a trend that is expected to rise in the future and which may boost the thread facelift market further. Despite being quite a new procedure, thread-lift is one of the fastestgrowing cosmetic procedures in the US, which is one of the largest markets for minimally invasive aesthetic procedures in the world. Additionally, the Asia Pacific region is declared as being one of the fastest-growing regions in the aesthetic threads market because of an increasing ageing population. As per the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery 2019 report, around 80,304 procedures of facial rejuvenation and 7,488 facelift procedures were performed in 2019 in India.

Cosmetic surgery market size worth US$ 66.96 billion at 3.6 per cent CAGR by 2026

The global cosmetic surgery market is likely to gain traction from the ever-increasing number of patients undergoing procedures such as chin augmentation, breast reduction, and breast augmentation. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) declared that in 2018, breast reduction (18 per cent) and chin augmentation (20 per cent) were two of the most popular surgical procedures in the US. This information is given by Fortune Business Insights™ in a recent report. The report further states that the cosmetic surgery market size was US$ 50.67 billion in 2018 and is projected to reach US$ 66.96 billion by 2026, exhibiting a CAGR of 3.6 per cent during the forecast period. The market consists of several prominent companies that are presently focusing on capitalising their market share by delivering new instruments and products to the masses. Besides, the demand for unique products with reduced post-surgical interventions and adverse effects is aiding these companies in investing huge sums in research and development activities. Furthermore, patients and healthcare providers are nowadays looking for state-of-the-art products. Coupled with this, the rising emphasis on removing the harmful effects of implants and other similar cosmetic procedures would contribute to the aesthetic surgery market growth in near future. However, the emergence of non-licensed facilities worldwide may hamper the market growth.

Noninvasive TGF-β-Induced therapy show positive results

According findings published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, procedures to help anti-ageing and promote skin rejuvenation were conducted by investigators who examined the efficacy of two sessions of growth factor-induced therapy using AQ Skin Solutions, which contains a mixture of transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), granulocyte-monocyte colony-stimulating factor, and platelet-derived growth factor. The pilot experiment included 30 women (of whom 20 were Asian, five were White, and five were Latina) with an average age of 38 years. The women had mild to moderate signs of skin ageing – including fine lines and wrinkles.Their primary goal was to rejuvenate and improve their overall skin appearance. The results of the study showed that growth factorinduced therapy resulted in positive skin rejuvenation in the women with 95 per cent confidence.

Light therapy market expected to exceed US$ 1 billion by 2025

As per a market research report, the light therapy market is expected to exceed $1 billion by 2025 with red light therapy treatment already witnessing a growth of over 4.5 per cent CAGR. The growing adoption of light therapy in various medical conditions will further accelerate the demand for these devices thereby augmenting business growth. Light therapy and red-light therapy are two completely different concepts, where the former deals with patients suffering from depression and the light resets the circadian rhythm by controlling the sleep-wake cycle, and the later improves sleep efficiency by providing individuals with maximum hours of sleep. Also, the increasing demand for non-invasive skin treatment like blue light therapy for treating several skin diseases such as acne vulgaris will favour the growth of the light therapy market. However, several side-effects of light therapy including headache and nausea may hamper industry growth in the future. The light visors segment, which accounted for around US$ 79 million, and dermatology clinics segment, which accounted for about US$ 210 million in 2018, is also expected to observe sharp growth by 2025.

Look what’s trending for non-invasive facial contouring!

Face contouring has an ever-growing global clique and even though makeup or salon treatments help create the illusion of a sculpted look, if your patients are seeking long-lasting and dramatic cosmetic change, you could suggest these popular and minimally invasive, cosmetic procedures. Perhaps one of the most popular options for non-invasive facial contouring, are facial fillers. These are easily available in a variety of types to suit different purposes. Filler treatments are easily accessible, and the procedure can be a quick lunch time one. Another popular procedure, which has become synonymous with face contouring is botulinum toxin. This helps reduce wrinkles and can be used to perform more dramatic changes such as narrowing the jawline. For contouring work around the chin area, reports indicate that Kybella works wonders. This injection contains a substance known as deoxycholic acid that melts fat cells and works well for patients who want to contour the chin area. Cryolipolysis is another contouring treatment that can be used to treat a double chin and define the lower face and neck. This treatment works by selectively freezing and destroying fat cells. Radiofrequency (RF) is also a popular sculpting treatment where electrical energy generates heat that triggers skin-tightening, and, at higher temperatures, fat melting as well. In the RF procedure, the heat that is generated, results in the creation of new collagen, which in turn results in plumper and tighter skin.

Study reveals use of chemical peels for melasma

In a published study, the use of certain chemical peels for the treatment of melasma in patients of colour has been outlined. When compared with lactic acid peels, glycolic acid and trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peels have been associated with greater reduction in melasma severity. However, lactic acid peels had fewer side-effects. Even though chemical peels are a common treatment option for the treatment of melasma, there have been few studies that have directly compared their effectiveness and safety profiles. Reportedly, two practicing dermatologists at the University of Health Sciences in Haryana, India, conducted a 12-week, openlabel, prospective randomised study of three chemical peel modalities for the treatment of melasma.
